Summer School and Workshop
MOTIVES, K-THEORY AND ARITHMETICAL GEOMETRY
SESTRI LEVANTE (Genova) June 28 - July 2, 2004
*First announcement*
A summer school on Motives, K-theory and Arithmetical Geometry will
be held in Sestri Levante, a Beach Resort near Genova (ITALY), during the
week June 28-July 2, 2004 in the framework of the Italian Research
Network "Geometria sulle Varieta' Algebriche" (financed by MIUR) and
the European Network HPRN-CT-2002-00287 "K-theory and Algebraic
Groups".
The Scientific Committee is : L. Barbieri-Viale (Roma I), B.
Chiarellotto (Padova), C. Pedrini (Genova) and U. Rehmann (Bielefeld).
The school is mainly intended for young researchers coming from Italian
and European Universities partecipating in the Networks, and who are
interested in Algebraic Geometry and Number Theory. The School will
feature the following topics:
1) Motives of algebraic varieties and motivic cohomology;
2) Chow groups of varieties over finite fields and p-adic fields;
3) Algebraic stacks and equivariant theories;
4) Motivic Galois group;
5) Birational motives and finite dimensionality.
A series of lectures on the above topics, in the mornings, will be
given by:
Y. ANDRE', J.-L. COLLIOT-THELENE, B. KAHN, L. MORET-BAILLY, C. WEIBEL
The afternoons will be devoted to informal discussions, and short talks
on research topics given by invited experts and by the partecipants in
the School.
LOCATION
The activity will take place at the Meeeting Centre "FONDAZIONE
MEDIATERRANEO" located in a restored old Monastery (Abbazia dei Padri
Domenicani) on the Gulf of Sestri Levante.

Milano Torino, Firenze.
Partecipants will be hosted in different hotels in Sestri Levante, all
within walking distance from the MEDIATERRANEO. For reservations and
information about rates contact

FINANCIAL SUPPORT
If you belong to one of the above mentioned networks, you can apply to
your node coordinator for support.For those young researchers (max 35
years old) coming from NIS countries special financial support has
been requested from INTAS (http://www.intas.be/mainfs.htm). If obtained it
will cover both travel and living expenses. Otherwise, applicants should
please contact
Claudio Pedrini (pedrini@dima.unige.it)
