Summer School on Preprojective Algebras

August 26 - August 30, 2013
Bad Driburg

The preprojective algebra associated with a quiver was introduced by I. M. Gelfand and V. A. Ponomarev. Its projective modules are intimately related to representations of the quiver, but it is often the modules for the preprojective algebra which are of relevance in other parts of mathematics. There is beautiful geometry linked to the preprojective algebra, including Kleinian singularities and H. Nakajima's quiver varieties.
Moreover the preprojective algebras are related to the classification of differential equations on the Riemann sphere. They are used in work on the Deligne-Simpson problem, which concerns the existence of matrices in prescribed conjugacy classes whose product is the identity matrix, or whose sum is the zero matrix.

The aim of this school is to give the participants an overview on several of the areas that preprojective algebras occur in. Participants should have some some experience with the representation theory of finite dimensional algebras e.g. master students, phd students etc. Participants are asked to contribute a talk of about 60 min. Please check the program for suggestions of topics and sources. Once you select a talk, we will provide you with the appropriate sources and what we think you should cover during you talk.

There will be a series of 3 talks given by Prof. R.O. Buchweitz. Abstracts of the lectures can be found here.

Schedule:

The school starts on Monday, August 26, at 12.30 and ends Friday, August 30, after lunch. A preliminary program may be found here.

Organizers:

Financial Support:

Accomodation and meals are covered by the DFG Sonderforschungsbereich 701 "Spektrale Strukturen und Topologische Methoden in der Mathematik". Travel costs can not be covered.

Location:

The summer school takes place at the Hotel Waldcafé Jäger, Waldstraße 1, 33014 Bad Driburg. The hotel is in walking distance from the train station of Bad Driburg. The seminar room in the hotel is equipped with a whiteboard and video and overhead projectors.

Participants will be accomodated in doulbe-rooms. If you have a preferred roommate, please let us know. If it is essential that you arrive already sunday 25th or have to stay till saturday 31st please let us know. This can also be covered.

Please observe the following: Due to constructionwork in the Rehbergtunnel there will be no trainservice to Bad Driburg. There will however be replacement traffic by bus. Your ticket is valid for that bus, but it will take you about half an hour longer to get there. Detailed information can be found here (german only). If you have questions or difficulties, don't hesitate to contact us.
