Public Transportation
How to get to the University?
There are many buses from Jahnplatz (in the center of the city) to the University,
numbers 21, 22, 221, 222. They stop in front of the main entrance of the University.
A subway (tram) connects the train station (Hauptbahnhof) with Jahnplatz, there
are three lines: all can be used (in the appropriate direction), there is no
stop in between.
Bus and Train Tickets
You may buy single tickets from the bus driver. There are also vending machines
at all major stops. For using trams, please remember always to buy tickets
beforehand, since there is no ticket sale inside the tram. The usual prize
for a ticket is 2,80 DM. Note that tickets obtained from a vending maschine
have to be validated inside the bus or the tram.
If you buy (at a vending machine) a set of 5 tickets,
you only pay 2,20 per ticket. These tickets can be separated and used by
different people.
If you want to leave a bus or a tram, you have to give a signal to the driver
beforehand, otherwise he will not stop (there are signal buttons inside the bus
or tram).
Taxis
There are usually plenty of taxis at the train station (and also elsewhere).
The usual fare from the trains station to the university will be approximately
15.00 DM.
You may order taxis by telephone: From inside Bielefeld dial 97 111 (Bieta Taxi).
