Public Transportation

How to get to the University?

There is a tram (Nr.4) which connects the city with the university. It stops at the train station (Hauptbahnhof) and at Jahnplatz (in the center of the city).

All four lines of the subway connect the train station (Hauptbahnhof) with Jahnplatz, there is no stop in between.

How to get to Mercure (Niederwall)?

Bus and Tram Tickets

You may buy single tickets from the bus driver. There are also vending machines at all major stops. For using trams, please remember always to buy tickets beforehand, since there is no ticket sale inside the tram. The usual prize for a ticket is 2 Euro. Note that tickets obtained from a vending machine have to be validated inside the bus or the tram.

If you buy (at a vending machine) a set of 4 tickets, you pay less. These tickets cannot be separated, but they can be used by different people travelling together.

If you want to leave a bus or a tram, you have press a signal button to the driver beforehand, otherwise the bus will not stop or the tram will not open the doors.

Taxis

There are usually plenty of taxis at the train station (and also elsewhere). The usual fare from the trains station to the university will be approximately 10.00 Euro and to Mercure (Niederwall) 8.00 Euro.

You may order taxis by telephone: From inside Bielefeld dial 97 111 (Bieta Taxi).
