Production Example

DOCUMENTA never was money-sponsored from funding agencies or from elsewhere.

In the contrary, the money went the other way around:

1998: Production of ICM'98 Proceedings as an Extra Vol. of DOCUMENTA
ICM'98 = International Congress of Mathematicians (Berlin)
3 volumes (hardcover), 2400 pages.

Savings/Earnings:	60500 DM =	30250 €
Offer by Congress Organizers for production up to:	50000 DM =	25000 €
Actually used:	2500 DM =	1250 €
Transferred back to Organizers (DMV) from sellings:	13000 DM =	6500 €

The money was used to contribute founding a new science prize ("Carl Friedrich Gauß Prize")
Certainly this is a much better use for earnings from scientific publications than giving it to commercial science publishers.
