Preparatory Course

The beginning is alwasy the hardest. This won't just be the case for you, but for everyone else as well. It's not only due to the new building and all the new people, but also because, in mathematics studies, both new and old content is approached from a higher education perspective. Because of that, the faculty offers preparatory courses at the beginning of each semester.

The preparatory course will help you greatly with the transition from school-level mathematics to university-level mathematics. Additionally, it’s a great opportunity to meet many fellow students, with whom you will later form study groups throughout your degree.

Two different preparatory courses are offered, tailored to the respective degree programs:

On the one hand, there will be a "Mathematics Preparatory Course" (Vorkurs Mathematik) led by Dr. Thorsten Hüls, which is aimed at students who are pursuing teaching degrees for Gymnasium/Comprehensive Schools (Gym/Ge), a subject-specific (fw) mathematics degree, or studying Business Mathematics (WiMa).

On the other hand, there will be a "Mathematics Preparatory Course for Teaching" (Vorkurs Mathematik für Lehramt) led by Mr. Sebastian Kollhoff, aimed at students who are pursuing teaching degrees for Primary Schools (G), as well as for Secondary Schools (HRSGe).

We definitely recommend attending the appropriate preparatory course!
