BIREP Summer School on persistence modules—The Interplay of Representation Theory and Topological Data Analysis

This summer school is about persistence modules. At its core the study of persistence modules is the representation theory of partially ordered sets. Many methods used to study persistence modules have been adapted from classical representation theory of quivers and homological algebra.

The classification of the representations of a partially ordered set is in general wild, which means it is not possible to classify all indecomposable persistence modules. The topological conditions coming from persistent homology motivate to restrict oneself to a subclass of persistence modules. This restriction often allows for a complete classification.

Date: July 31–August 4, 2023

Location: Hotel Waldcafé Jäger, Bad Driburg

Invited speaker: Wojciech Chachólski (KTH Stockholm)

Registration Deadline: June 1, 2023

Poster: DIN A3, DIN A4, HTML (Source)

Organisers: Raphael Bennett-Tennenhaus, Rudradip Biswas, Benedikt Fluhr, Jan-Paul Lerch, Janina Letz, Julia Sauter

This summer school is aimed towards early career researchers, namely advanced Master students, PhD students and PostDocs. Since the best way to learn a topic is to actively engage with it, the talks are given by the participants of the summer school. Each participant may pick a topic from the list of talks they are comfortable with. This way everyone will teach others and learn from others. The summer school will further provide the opportunity to share experiences in academia, and discuss strategies for next steps.

Financial Support

TRR 358 Logo

The summer school is supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) via the the TRR 358 "Integral Structures in Geometry and Representation Theory" (SFB-TRR 358/1 2023 – 491392403) and by the European Mathematical Society (EMS).

We are able to cover accomodation and meals for all participants, and travel costs for a small number of participants. For the latter we will prioritize people from universities and countries where travel funding is not readily available, developing countries in particular.
