Every Linux-Account is automatically equipped with a mail box, which receives e-mail under the following addresses:
loginname@math.uni-bielefeld.de
Firstname.Surname@math.uni-bielefeld.de
The version with Firstname.Surname may not yet exist for old accounts - please test it first.
The following two server addresses are relevant for the e-mail service, namely
imap.math.uni-bielefeld.de
as incoming mail server, and
smtp.math.uni-bielefeld.de
as outgoing mail server. Both only accept connections encrypted with TLS.
Incoming e-mail is sent to the IMAP server, from where it can be read with all common e-mail clients. Mail in previously existing local folders is also accessible. We have prepared some configuration hints for the most common e-mail clients.
Filter rules, e.g. for sorting out spam, mail forwarding to your Uni-Bielefeld address, and vacation messages, can conveniently be configured in the webmail interface. Also for these tasks, we have prepared some configuration hints.
